What is Hostnames???

0 comment(s) |

A Hostname ( sitename) is the unique name by which a network-attached device (which could consist of a computer, file server, network storage device, fax machine, copier, cable modem, etc.) is known on a network. The hostname is used to identify a particular host in various forms of electronic communication such as the World Wide Web, e-mail.

Hostnames can be a confusing as they have a double meaning.

Here are some examples:
Full Address
Hostname
Domain Name
TLD
www.no1tutorial.com
www
no1tutorial.com
com
no1tutorial.com
no1tutorial.com
no1tutorial.com
com
www.google.net
www
google.net
net
my.www.no1tutorial.com
my.www
no1tutorial.com
com

As you can see from the examples the hostname can be many different things.

  • If the entire address consists of only 2 parts, then the hostname is equivalent to the domain name.
  • If the entire address consists of more than 2 parts, then the hostname is equivalent to all the left most pieces before the right 2 parts (or the domain name)

To make things even more confusing, you can refer to the full address in its entirety as a hostname. For example, with www.no1tutorial.com:

  • no1tutorial.com is the domain name.
  • www is the hostname
  • www.no1tutorial.com is the hostname as well!!!
You may give your system any name provided that the full hostname is unique. The hostname may include letters, numbers and hyphens.

Google does not search the Internet when you search

0 comment(s) |

Many people think that Google searches the Internet when you perform a search on Google. That's not the case.

Google uses a so-called robot to surf the Internet. This robot is a simple software program that parses all web pages that it finds on the Internet and then stores the information it finds in Google's database. When you search on Google, you're actually searching the database that has been collected by that robot.

If anyone want to get high rankings on Google, they must make sure that Google's robot finds the right information on your website and that the robot writes the right information about your website in Google's database.
